Tazeen Qayyum is a Pakistani-Canadian, multidisciplinary artist. Trained as a miniature painter of South Asian and Persian traditions, Qayyum continues to explore new materials and processes through drawing, installation, sculpture, video and performance. Repetition, rhythm, balance, and geometry are methodological devices that allow her to create multi-layered narratives. Drawing from complex issues of belonging and displacement within a socio-political context, her art is a way for her to navigate identity and beliefs living in the diaspora.

Her work has been exhibited across the world including in A Thousand and One Days: The Art of Pakistani Women Miniaturists (Honolulu Academy of Arts, Hawaii and Musee des Beaux, Rouen, France, 2005); Veiled (Textile Museum of Canada, 2011); A Holding Pattern (Toronto Pearson Airport, 2013); Façade (1st Karachi Biennale, Pakistan, 2017); Art for Education: Contemporary Artists from Pakistan (Museo Diocesano, Milan, Italy, 2018); Contemporary Chronicles (South Asia Institute, Chicago, USA, 2021) among others. Her work is included in the collections of The Robert McLaughlin Gallery, Oshawa, Toronto, TD Canada Trust Permanent Collection, Toronto; Welt Museum, Vienna; Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pengzhou, China; Doris McCarthy Gallery, University of Toronto; National Gallery of Amman, Jordan; and National Art Gallery, Nepal.

Qayyum received her BFA in Visual Arts from the National College of Arts Lahore, Pakistan, 1996 and currently lives and works in Oakville, Canada. She is a member of the Arts Council at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, and previously served on the Board of Directors at Oakville Galleries, Canada.
