Alwin Reamillo studied Visual Arts at the Philippine High School for Arts, University of the Philippines College of Fine Arts, W.A. School of Visual Arts, Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. 

He began his artistic practice as an Arts Teacher at the Philippine High School for the Arts. He grounds his studio practice in experimental mixed media and pedagogical exploration of creative play. He has initiated collaborative projects that intersect between mixed media painting, installation, shadow puppetry, video and performance. After migrating to Australia in 1995, he pursued interest in exploring ideas about memory, mobility, cross-cultural dialogue/exchange, community collaboration and the experience of moving back and forth between cultures. Interested in examining how these interactions can change ways of thinking. Through immersive exploration of intertwined themes of colonisation, migration and globalisation of culture, Reamillo has collaborated with diverse communities across regional Australia and overseas, developing participatory ‘social sculptures’ in the form of ‘vehicles/ vessels/-crafts’, in response to local contexts and histories. Recent projects often developed through an immersive process of ‘hunting and gathering’, which the artist re-translates as ‘hunting’ for found and sought materials/resources and a ‘gathering’ of people. 

Reamillo has presented work in Australia and in the Philippines and has participated in national and international exhibitions, collaboration projects and artists residencies, including Polyphony: Southeast Asia (Art Museum of Nanjing University of the Arts, 2019); Artist Making Movement: Asian Art Biennial 2015 (Taiwan National Museum of Fine Arts); Sculpture by the Sea Bondi 2015 (Sydney); The Roving Eye: Contemporary Art from Southeast Asia (ARTER/Space for Art, 2014); Third Fukuoka Asian Art Triennale (Fukuoka Asian Art Museum, 2007).

Reamillo was a recipient of Freeman Foundation for Asian Artist Fellowship, Vermont Studio Center, USA 1996 and the 1994 Thirteen Artists Awards, Cultural Center of the Philippines. 

He currently divides time between Manila and Perth.
