Henry Alexander Palacio Clavijo graduated from the Fine Arts program at the Faculty of Arts ASAB in 2013 Bogotá, Colombia. He recently obtained his MFA from the UNAM, Mexico. His work is interested in the use of contradictions generated at the cross points of history, economy and popular culture in order to build narratives that question the way in which the relationship between reality and representation re-define and re-shape the political context in and of the global south.

While his studio practice rethinks “cheap” materials and “ordinary” techniques through scale and repetition to reference cultural iconographies, corporate identities, logos and symbols, his use of public space creates objects as the starting point for developing a wider kind of collaborative processes. This path has enabled him to think on creating structural narratives that question how representation, misrepresentation and auto-representation construct different layers of reality.

Henry Palacio Clavijo has exhibited both individually and collectively in Colombia, United States and Mexico, such as #LIKEFORLIKE (Biquini Wax-Mexico, 2021), La masa esta callaíta (Museum of Modern Art from Medellin- Colombia, 2019), Do it while you can (Artbo, International Art Fair from Bogotá, 2018) and Dysfunctional formulas of Love (The BOX gallery (US, 2018). Clavijo is recipient of several awards from which it is worth mentioning the Scholarship of Creation for Emerging Artists from the Ministry of Culture (Colombia, 2015) and New Names (Colombia, 2018). He has been selected for numerous residencies such as Dark Study (US, 2021-2022), Soft Power, Banff Centre (Canada, 2021), UNIDEE (Italy, 2020), FLORA (Colombia, 2018) and Hawapi (Colombia, 2018).

He currently lives between Colombia and Mexico where he collaborates with artist-run spaces and works as an educator.
