Palacio challenges the perception of what we see and believe to be our reality, in the work “tacobellmex.com" he creates a Taco Bell that would exist on other side of the “wall”, a digital Taco Bell as seen by Mexicans that have been deported back from the USA. tacobellmex.com explores the complex geopolitical relationship between the USA and Mexico bringing forth questions of identity, exploitation, and fantasy all whilst shedding light on the economic, political and social realities of countries that may be neighbours but exist at very different levels of “development”. This digital satire, a performance of sorts, uses the “grey” of the Internet to shed light upon the conflicts and imbalance that reverberate through other relationships globally where there is a dominant power whether those super powers are nations or brands.
