For BAB, the artist presents a mixed media installation part of the Borneo Heart project. The intrinsic quality of I-Lann’s works to engage with the community is matched by the location where the installation is presented: the Sermon Hall of Wat Prayoon, one of the oldest and most respected temples in Bangkok. Renowned for its community outreach, Wat Prayoon gathers a wide range of people within the temple’s premises and the surrounding Muslim, Christian, and Buddhist communities. In addressing the essence of community gathering, I-Lann’s installation invites the audience to active participation.  For instance, the “karaoke” mats, hanging in the Sermon Hall, combine lyrics from popular Thai and English songs evoking familiar response from the viewers. Sitting on the long and seemingly ritualistic, white mat, the audience is also invited to watch the video Pangkis, where a group of male dancers from Kota Kinabalu based ‘Tagaps Dance Theatre’, wearing I-Lann’s sculptural artwork ‘7-Headed Lalandau Hat’, perform a warrior dance in contemporary terms. Presented together with the female centered narrative of the woven mats, the video’s male narrative addresses “the anxiety of trying to find a place, to consolidate old and new knowledge, and how to be in our contemporary societies”.
